Pelosi Blows it Again

So the Democrats have retaken the majority, and there are two great challenges they face when the national spotlight turns to them for the first time in a decade:

  • Don't look too extreme; and,
  • Keep all wings of the party happy.

So what does Nancy Pelosi do? Blow both at the same time.

So Pelosi backs Murtha over Hoyer. Let's take a look at the balance sheet. Hoyer has good relations with corporate donors and can raise money. He has legitimacy with the 'Blue Dogs' and the 'New Dems.' He has been a good soldier for Pelosi, and has made it clear in many venues that he has no intention of challenging her for leadership.

Murtha... is a former defense hawk with a tendency to say weird things.

Yeah, this is is a great idea.

Hope the Democrats enjoy the two years in the majority. Doesn't look like it will last any longer.

Update: Edited to revise my characterization of Mr. Murtha.

Welcome Instapundit readers and thanks, Glenn, for the traffic! While you're here, check out my guess at why Pelosi is taking this risk, or just look around.

Oh, please! Murtha is a career politician, just like the rest of 'em. He's not any nuttier than anybody else on Capitol Hill.

Murtha's not a fruitcake, he just plays one on TV.

Maybe "Blow both at the same time." isn't the best way to put it.

Just sayin'.

Ha ha, 4 days after the election and you "predict" that the Dems will only be there for 2 years because of this enormous development (lots of sarcasm here).

I'll bet you also "predicted" that the Republicans would keep both the House and the Senate.

Either one would be a perfect "#2" in the House.

Murtha has NEVER EVER been a hawk. That is a liberal lie and an attempt to give this nut case some credibility.

Let's see. Murtha was involved in Abscam, Alcee Hastings caught up in bribery too, Reid has been a part of many questionable land deals. Sounds like the dems are setting themselves up to be the new party of corruption.

Actually, this is no surprise. If the Democrats can find a way to shoot themselves in the foot, of course they will...

Murtha got off in AbScam by turning state's evidence, I seem to recall. I am also pretty sure the prosecuter resigned over the fact the Murtha was cut such a break.

But don't worry, Nancy promised us "the most ethical congress ever". I guess her definition of 'ethical' is to give proven corrupt politicians the second chance they deserve.

Murtha's working on cutting all military expenses that don't directly benefit his brother's (defense lobbyist)clients. I can't wait to see the WaPo investigations into the money being funneled to his buddies ala Abramoff. I guess it will join the pile of hard hitting investigations into Jefferson's frozen $90,000, Mollohan's $2,000,000 former aide's "charity" payoff, and Harry Reid's sons on the payroll of those who benefited from his steering. The republicans lost because of scandal, not the war. THe media is willing to ignore all dems wrongdoing.

I'll bet it's easy to use the search function. His predictions were pretty good.

Hahaha! You are probably basing this on even nuttier commentary which suggested Democratic losses.

As much as I want to do otherwise, I have to predict a Democratic takeover of the House - with a little breathing room. I predict a Democratic gain of 21 seats. That will bring the breakdown in the House to 224 Democrats, 211 Republicans. Way off.

Now for a walk in fantasy land.

In the Senate, I think the GOP will have a better day than has been expected for a while. I expect Mike DeWine, Rick Santorum, and Lincoln Chafee will lose. But I think that Conrad Burns, George Allen, and Jim Talent will win. I expect Michael Steele will pull off a miracle, and be elected to the Senate in Maryland. The net will be a Democratic gain of 2 seats. For a 53-47 partisan breakdown.

Not only should Democrats not take advice from someone who clearly cares little for there agenda, the Republicans should stay away too as he obviously has no idea what he is talking about.

Hoyer is a lot more left-wing than Murtha.

It was very surprising to me that everyone was chiming in with their analysis that assumed that in order to capture the senate the dems required six seats. This was not true. Lieberman did not run as an independant-HE RAN AS A DEMOCRAT AND LOST! It was then that he said "screw this whole 'voice of the people=voice of GOD' 'BULLSH*T' I want my cornbread."[ask him-he will confirm!]. He took upwards of $6 million of augustus bushie II the war profiteering anarchists bones,[literally-that cash is actually backed by soldiers body parts-the new 'body part standard'-in the 'privatization of war'-to make haliburton*(haliburton sold cascade centrifuge technology to Iran when DICK cheney was arguing that sanctions just sucked for the bottem line as V.P. of haliburton)/KBR/Duestche bank/blackwater/ rich and acquire the political and economic cornbread by purposely creating instability and then exploiting the fuhq out of it 'manageable chaos' doctrine of kissinger brought to denoument- it really is better than the 'gold' standard-body parts are easier to generate when required]. The votes that lieberman got were republican NOT democrat! So, I was stating to everyone who of course would not listen that the dems required seven seats to overcome this 'JUDAS' factor of Lieberman reversing the will of the people to make augustus less than augustus by in fact making him even more augustus by making him not only the WAR declarerer,(and since who signs a peace treaty in a war on terror anyway? Not a nation-state I assure you; and somehow I'm thinking if they are signing peace treaties not terrorists if they are blowing exactly that kind of sh*t up then real terrorists-therefore)WAR enderer, but also the president of the senate whenever Lieberman wants a political/economic cornbread snack! Man it is good to be augustus and be rollin wit da sons and daughters of satan YO! I had been pointing out that rove's october surprise was in fact as chilling as that supreeze those ghoulish feinds try and feed Sean Connery in that flick back in the day- the macClinton heil Hilary lady macClinton anti-advocacy factor-perhaps a little more gay though. As MacClinton and Heil Hilary Lady MacClinton embarked on their own 'night of the living dem' part ~-1(infinity minus one-sorry not fluent with the keyboard)the numbers started droping across the board while everyone is looking at the 'failure of rove's geniusness' and ignoring the suceess of Big Daddy ROE Vees pimp'n- but it is a sad and tragic story how a pimp jus don git no spect even in da hood Yo! The failure was that the dems managed to squeek out the victory in spite of the MacClinton and Heil Hilary Lady MacClinton 'creep' factor-and yes the pun is absolutely intended- due to the overwhelming hatred by ordinary people: to having innocent individuals of ANY country slaughtered pointlessly so a bunch of ni66ers in washington can hook themselves up with the political and economic cornbread- there is a limit to what will be ignored after all you can't help yourselves ni66ers do ni66erly things. Thus it is that the required success has manifested itself and now augustus bushie owns the senate whenever he wants and yet can now put ineffectiveness on the dems so that the mormons can steal an election for themselves this time around-National Socialism'08- this time it's the mormon/kkk/bible-dumpers/sons and daughters of satan running the concentration and the muslims and the real 'team I love jesus' in the camps- so it's ALL GOOD Y'ALL. BOOOOOOYAHAHAHAHAHA...(insert sounds of burning flames and sizzling flesh here). Enjoy the cornbread y'all. An American in exile who was tortured for 7 months and illegally incarcerated for ~ 3 years before being illegally deported as a non-criminal civil detainee in order to kill standing in an important legal case that stops augustus bushie from stealing the election and starting world wide waco to begin with- but oh those british socialist traitors MacClinton and Heil Hilary Lady MacClinton and all their interconnectedness glory and earthly messiah magnificance- they HAD BIG THINGS TO DO...Global Fuhqfests,I mean villages to BUILD and so have the mormons/kkk/bible-dumpers/sons and daughters of satan who are pimpin them. Now I'm just the CRAZY GUY with the new paradigmn of naval warfare one manifestation of which provides for the sinking of our carrier groups with low tech weapon systems which I am providing to the nation-states who are having their nation-state sovereignty illegally invaded by the even more british than the british Frankenstein monster police-state and empire that the American experiment in Liberty and Freedom has been perverted into. That Guy...gosh and you thought fuhqing with individuals made them powerless and you all powerful...fuhq don't you hate when that happens?!!?

Some nut wrote, "It was then that he said 'screw this whole 'voice of the people=voice of GOD' 'BULLSH*T' I want my cornbread.'"

You're saying the majority in the general election doesn't represent the voice of the people. This is the most really anti-democratic, dangerous, and scary meme. Far more so than the phony accusations toward Bush and the GOP.

Republicans are so easy to troll. I believe it has something to do with the low intelligence of republicans and the right wing in general.
