Christopher Tolkien is having his revision of his father's Narn-i-hin Hurin published as a standalone novel. Movie rights are no doubt the driving force behind this. I wonder how well the conservatives who boosted the Lord of the Rings will deal with the story.

You've got to be kidding! Christopher Tolkien has been immovably opposed to screen adaptations of his father's works since before Peter Jackson ever filmed his first zombie. He can't stop The Hobbit, since his father sold those movie rights long ago: but *nothing* published since 1973 will be sold to studio, so long as CT has anything to say about it.
