Edwards' Sleazy and Offensive Ad

Just disgusting:

Hat Tip: Dave Weigel, who says:

"And Elizabeth and I decided in the quiet of a hospital room." Subtle. "After 12 hours of tests and after getting very bad news." Even subtler. His wife has cancer. "We're not going to quietly go away. Instead we're going to go out there and fight for what it is we believe."

You know, Mitt Romney's wife has multiple sclerosis. Obviously that's not going to shorten her life the way Elizabeth Edwards' cancer will shorten hers. But it's the kind of thing that could stir up sympathy and handkerchief-clutching out there in Iowa and New Hampshire, and the Romneys only ever talk about it when asked. There's no TV ad pimping her illness. If Romney has no emotions, than Edwards has only the basest ones. There's not enough Lysol on the eastern seaboard to scrub his slime away.

When I think of those I love, and how their lives have been touched by illness and tragedy, I wonder how I would feel if I were a candidate for office and tried to use the pain of others to win sympathy and votes. I don't think I'd sleep well at night.

I think this is the slimiest blog post I've seen in a while.

I'm so glad we have you to tell us what the Edwards can and cannot say about their own pain (oh wait, it's just about you right?)... How is he "using the pain of others"?

THE MAN'S WIFE IS DYING BEFORE HIS EYES, AND POLITICAL HACKS LIKE YOU ON THE RIGHT SAY HE SHOULD GET OUT OF THE RACE BECAUSE OF IT.

That makes me physically sick just to think about it. Way to enable this, jerk. He has every right to include his wife in his campaign if she wants to before she dies. How dare you deny her that? Her own will, her own opinion and influence? You're disgusting. You think he should force a bag over her head and keep her barefoot in the kitchen like Romney.

Well, screw you, buddy.

I can't express ho offended I am at accusing this man of somehow manufacturing his wife's cancer for political gain. What an ass. Great introduction to your blog.

Here I thought the title "influencepeddler" would be ironic.

I didn't know the Edwards campaign read my blog! How nice.

What a pathetic misrepresentation of what I wrote.

Where do I say he should get out of the race? Where do I say she should step aside? Who would be foolish enough to suggest he 'manufactured his wife's cancer?'

Learn to read before you criticize.

Looks like the editor hit a nerve in the brave dude who signed "anonymous," whose bravery is matched by his/her illiteracy!

Keep on punching! I'm putting your blog on my blogroll if you promise to break more pinatas like the Edwards donkey!

Not filled with candy, that one!
